After nearly two decades in the works, the Tayuan Airport Metro launched operations from TPE Airport on March 2, 2017, connecting the major international hub to downtown Taipei. This rapid transit line services international visitors as well as Taiwanese commuters in the Grand Taipei metropolitan area.

The metro was first conceived in 1998 and official plans for the Taoyuan Airport Metro plan kicked off in 2006. After passing stringent safety and security tests, the metro kicked off its inaugural run from A1 station at Taipei Main Station.

The new In-Town Check-In (ITCI) service was also introduced at the event. Travelers can now check into their flight from Taipei Main Station in downtown Taipei, including baggage drop-off, confirming seat assignments and obtaining boarding passes before arriving at the airport. This new service paves the way to a smooth, expedited airport transfer: travelers no longer have to carry their checked bags from the metro to the airport and can enjoy ample time to complete business meetings, shop or simply relax before departure.

Becoming an ITCI provider symbolizes Taiwan’s successful tourism growth, putting it on par Asia’s other leading international airport services such as KORAIL Airport Railroad in Korea, Airport Express in Hong Kong, China and KLIA Ekspres in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In honor of the launch, the Taoyuan Airport Metro line is now offering 50% off passenger fares from March 2 to April 1, 2017, allowing more people to take advantage of this exciting new service in the heart of Taipei.
